BAI Celebrates 89th Anniversary

Quezon City-On the occasion of its Founding Anniversary from February 4-8, 2019, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) pays tribute to the women of livestock farming. This year marks the 89th anniversary of BAI with the theme “Kababaihan: Kaagapay sa Maunlad na Paghahayupan.” Assistant Secretary for Livestock Dr. Enrico P. Garzon, Jr. graced the opening ceremony of the celebration. He stated the vital role of women in ensuring a successful and profitable livestock farming.

Asec.Garzon also emphasized that an equal opportunity must be given to men and women in order to ensure the success of the animal industry. On the other hand, Ms. Cecille A. Virtucio, Managing Director of Batangas Egg Producers Cooperative (BEPCO) stressed the active participation of women in livestock farming to ensure food availability, safety and security. The celebration included the turnover of cheque to TarlacAgricultural University (TAU),Pampanga State AgriculturalUniversity (PSAU), Local Government Unit of Aklan and BEPCO for their collaborative projects with the agency. Regional trainees took oath as newly deputized Animal Feeds, Veterinary Drugs and Biologics Control Officers (AFVDBCOs). They will be in-charge of regulating and licensing animal feeds, veterinary drugs and biologics at the regional level. Free seminars (on meat processing, bee keeping, forage development,native animal production), live native animal displays and various exhibits were also featured in the celebration.

TienDA, a venue for farmers to directly sell their produce to the consumers, was also organized at the BAI Compound and will be available until February 8, 2019. The BAI was established on January 31, 1930 pursuant to Act No. 3639 dividing the Bureau of Agriculture into two distinct entities: the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) and BAI.
