Animal Welfare is Human Welfare.” This was the theme adopted by the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) which led the nation in celebrating the Animal Welfare Week last October 4-6, 2017 at the BAI Compound, Visayas Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.

The event highlighted the recognition of Hero Dogs and the contributions of distinguished individuals and organizations in promoting and protecting the welfare of animals.

Dr. Ma. Gracia N. Dizon-Flores, Animal Welfare Focal Person, launched the Animal Welfare Friendly Community Award which will commence in 2018.  The honor shall be awarded to the most animal welfare-friendly communities in the country.

Dr. Rubina O. Cresencio, Most Outstanding Veterinarian of 2016 and former BAI-Director graced the celebration and delivered an inspiring message on the importance of promoting the welfare of the animals.

The three-day celebration featured activities such as Holy Mass, Pet Blessing, Free Anti-rabies Vaccination, Animal Welfare Quiz Bee, Booth Exhibitions, Slogan and Poster Making Contest sponsored by the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) and a Seminar on Humane Use of Laboratory Animals which was a collaborative activity of BAI and UNILAB.
